We are excited to announce our new Quilting Course!

This course covers the foundations of patchwork and quilt making. You will be taught how to to create a pieced, patched and quilted piece from start to finish.

We will look at different patchwork methods of assembling a pieced top layer, which is then sandwiched with batting and a backing cloth. You will be taught to quilt through the layers using different stitching methods to completing your quilt by trimming and binding.

By the end of the course, you will have completed a beautiful quilt approximately one meter square, though dimensions may vary based on your preference and how much homework is put in.

    Course Level & Requirements

This is an advanced beginner-level course. While extensive sewing experience is not required, you must be able to thread a sewing machine and sew a straight line confidently. We also recommend having a machine at home, as you will need to work on your quilt between lessons.

    What You Will Learn

    • Designing your quilt block, patchwork and arranging layouts
    • Quilting block methods: square patches, half-square triangles, log cabin and freeform
    • Methodical cutting techniques

    • Basting three layers together
    • Quilting by hand or machine (using a walking foot)
    • Binding your quilt

    What to Bring

    • 0.35 meters to 0.5 meters of 4–6 different fabrics (medium-weight woven, non-stretch, pre-washed). Ensure you are happy with how your selected fabrics work together. You may instead choose to repurpose old clothes, scraps of fabric or fat quarters to build your quilt block
    • 1.5 meters of pre-washed backing fabric
    • 1.5 meters of batting or wadding
    • Thread that matches your fabric

Please note that we have wadding, threads, and a limited range of fabrics available for purchase if needed.

This course is aimed at those who want to learn the skills of shirt making from start to finish. It is aimed at intermediate sewers who must have previous sewing experience.

This Unisex Shirt making course is ideal for those of you who are looking to improve your precision and confidence in garment making by learning a wide range of classic shirt making techniques. You will learn all the fundamental features of shirt making including learning to sew a classic two piece collar, how to handle tricky plackets and cuff openings, how to make button holes and plenty of other useful transferable sewing techniques and methods.

The shirt pattern is a unisex boxy style shirt that is designed to suit and fit a wide range of body shapes.
